Aviation Day

Aviation Day 2019

Nineteen EHS students traveled to DIA for Aviation Day 2019!

The event took place in a giant United Tech Ops hangar with a 787 jet that students could explore plus many military, medical, and private aircraft.  Students were able to speak with pilots, flight attendants, flight instructors, mechanics, and aerospace professionals.

This is a fast growing industry - there will be a demand for more than 206,000 new pilots and 189,000 new maintenance technicians by 2037.  Colorado is second in the nation for aviation and space jobs and Jefferson County has the highest concentration of aerospace employees in Metro Denver, with more than 30% of the region’s aerospace employment.

Jeffco Public Schools has partnered with several industry leaders to create career pathway opportunities for students interested in many aviation/space jobs - visit with your counselor for more information.  Mark your calendar for Aviation Day 2020 next September!

JeffCo Athletic Fee: Where does it go?

Participation numbers for Jefferson County Athletics during the 2018-2019 school year were 12,267. This number represents the total number of student-athletes that participated in one or more of the 26 sports offered in Jefferson County. The athletic participation fee collected for all sports is deposited into the district’s general fund to help offset a portion of the operating expenses for Jefferson County Athletics. Revenues brought in from participation fees ($1.57 million); gate receipts and ticket sales in 2018-2019 were approximately $754,000, with total revenues from all sources equaling approximately $2.7 million. Total budget was approximately $9.7 million. Although sport costs vary widely, participation fees are standard and not sport specific. Listed below are areas covered by the district athletics budget. With ongoing budget cuts, it is often necessary for schools to supplement their athletic budget with fundraising.

MTB Team:
The singletrack shredding Cougars completed race #2 in Leadville on Sunday, and despite crazy weather and race evacuations and cancellations, finished either 3rd or 1st; as of Monday, there were some crazy timing issues to figure out!

The Varsity Boys had an incredible day, with Evergreen racers owning 3 of the top ten spots: Robbie Day finished 2nd, Alex Purrington finished 5th, and Zach Footer finished 8th.

Alyssa Leifer finished a strong 12th for Varsity Girls, Ben Leifer made it into the top ten for Freshman Boys with a 9th place finish, and Trevor Chartier cracked the top twenty for Sophomore Boys with a 14th place race. An Honorable Mention has to go out to Bodie Jones for his impressive temporary tattoos. Ride on, Cougars!

Next race is September 16 in Snowmass.
