MAP Testing and Test Fest

Testing

MAP GROWTH TESTING:  This week, students enrolled in English 9, English 10, Analytic Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry will begin MAP Growth testing. The English and Math assessments will take place over two block class periods.

MAP Growth tests are administered at the beginning, middle and end of each year. These tests serve as one of many data points in measuring student progress. For additional information on the MAP Growth test, please click HERE

Start Planning for TEST FEST on Wednesday, October 16.

For many years, EHS has used the October National PSAT/NMSQT testing date to administer multiple tests.  EHS calls this day TEST FEST.  Students will be taking the 9th, 10th, and 11th grade PSAT tests on Wed., Oct. 16.  All of these tests are used to identify college readiness, and we use the results in our academic counseling process to help determine proper academic placement in classes.  The National Merit Scholarship is awarded to a small amount of students every year to help them fund their college experience.  In fact, the PSAT is sometimes referred to as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT).  Three benefits of taking the PSAT are—

  1. Since the junior year is the only year that students can qualify for the National Merit Scholarship, they might want to give it a practice shot during the sophomore year.
  2. It helps students connect with colleges.
  3. It better prepares students to take the SAT.

The exam fee is $12 for the PSAT 9/10 and $17 for the PSAT/NMSQT.  Test registration closes at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.  Students are considered registered when the OPTIONAL fee has been paid online through Jeffco Connect.

Please take note that only students testing attend school on October 16.  Parents do not need to call the attendance line.  Buses will run on a normal schedule.

ON TEST DAY:

  • Students need to arrive by 7:25 a.m. with a calculator and #2 pencils.
  • Freshmen students will be done at approximately 10:45 a.m.Sophomores and juniors will finish at approximately 11:30 a.m.(Students with accommodations will finish at various times.)

As a reminder, all students will take a free PSAT or SAT in the spring as part of our state mandated testing.

Please contact Dr. Artes at [email protected] or (303) 982-5126 with any questions.

Senior counselors will be working with students in their English classes this week.  They will be talking about post-secondary planning as well as the college application process. Please come ready to learn.

At the Senior Class meeting this Wednesday, Jostens handed out ordering packets for graduation.  These include information about announcements, Caps and Gowns, and class rings.  If you did not receive one,  you can stop by the Main Office and pick one up from Mrs. Allen.

Jostens will have representatives here during both lunches on Tuesday, August 27th and Wednesday, August 28th collecting orders All students are required to wear the matching cap and gown in order to walk in our graduation ceremony on May 14th 2020.  Jostens will be accepting cash, check, and/or credit card.  You can pay in full, make payments, or simply make an $80 deposit for the entire order and pay the balance upon delivery.  All orders placed on these two days will receive the group discount that is already reflected in their packets. Late orders may incur additional costs.

Cougar Parents

Whether you are new to Evergreen High School with an incoming freshman, or you have been here with other children, it is always important to remember how you can best support your students while they are here.

Attend Back-to-School Night and Parent-Teacher Conferences

If you want the most up-to-date information about our school and your child, Back to School Night on August 27th and Parent-Teacher Conferences are the best way to stay informed

Attendance Is Very Important!

A Message from your Athletic Director

Evergreen Community,

It is with great excitement that we welcome you to another great year!  We have lots of great things happening, which was detailed in our July welcome back message.  As we enter our fall sport competitions, I would like to remind everyone of the VERY high expectations we have for adult and student behavior at our sporting events.  New this year, we will have signs posted throughout our athletic venues, reminding everyone of the importance of great sportsmanship. In addition, we will be implementing a yellow and red card system.  Briefly, this works the same as a player being carded in a soccer game. If I or any admin./campus supervisors observe poor sportsmanship, that individual will be shown a yellow card as a warning. Of course, we will be very explicit, and explain why the individual is getting a yellow card.  If the poor sportsmanship behavior continues, that individual will be shown a red card and asked to leave the event. If for some reason, the individual in non-compliant, they risk being trespassed for the remaining season competitions, or depending on the behavior, the entire year. This system is being implemented to remind everyone that we hold ourselves to a higher standard, and our words and actions will be supportive and positive.  Let’s have a great fall season where we compete at the highest level on and off the field! Please click on the link below for an important sportsmanship message from our Executive Director of Athletics and Activities, Mr. Jim Thyfault.

Steinmark Award

Evergreen High School was presented with the Steinmark Award at the Jeffco Hall of Fame reception in June.  This award is presented to the school with the highest average place finish in all of its sports programs, as compared to the average place finish of our Jeffco league competition.  This is an incredible accomplishment!! In fact, to highlight how big of an accomplishment this is, we haven’t received the Steinmark award since the 2000-2001 school year! D’Evelyn has won this award every year since 2010-2011, and before that Ralston Valley had a pretty tight grip on it between 2000 and 2010.  At the end of the 2019-2020 season, I have high hopes that we will be keeping the Steinmark award at EHS, AND adding the Paul Davis Sportsmanship Award!!!

Our Football Team Inspires!

As we know, you can’t be an Evergreen Cougar without having a heart for our community!  Earlier in July, our football team participated in a flag football game with the Inspire program, run by Ms. Maren Schreiber at EPRD. INSPIRE incorporates opportunities for social, physical, and inclusive recreational experiences for individuals with disabilities.
