Great Things are Happening

We are sending amazing individuals out into the world.  As they leave Evergreen High School, we know that our students are going on to do some incredible things.  We would like to recognize two students that are making great things happen already.

Skylar Gale:  As one of our students
piloting the STEM program for Jeffco Public Schools, Skylar was selected as a finalist for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair along with students from 75 countries around the world.  At this international competition, Skylar was awarded the 4th Place Grand Award in Life Sciences - Earth and Environmental Sciences.  Congratulations and great work Skylar!

Icelantic Skis
Jack Lindquist:  Jack has had an internship with Icelantic Skis for the past two years, so when he started his Capstone project, they were an obvious choice to partner with.  Jack was able to work with Ben Anderson, one of the co-founders of Icelantic Skis, learning the ins and outs of this local company whose motto is "make local, think global".  After working with Jack, Ben came to our Senior Capstone Showcase and was so taken by the breadth of projects presented, that he wanted the Cougar Skis to be donated to EHS.  The skis that Icelantic honored Evergreen High School with, will be mounted in the Main Office.  They are now in production and will be featured on the Icelantic Ski web-site, where they can be purchased.  Great Job Jack!

Pickleball Champions

Pickleball

Congratulations to Russell Taber and Chase Thompson for winning the 2019 EHS Pickleball Championship.  The freshman duo bested Jack Faibanks and Jarek Hladik 2 games to 1 in the championship round to win the 9-team tournament!

EVERGREEN HIGH SCHOOL FOUNDATION – NEWS AND UPDATES

As our faculty prepares for Jeffco’s initiative to provide devices for all students (likely to be touchscreen Chromebooks), the Foundation will be instrumental in helping to provide resources and funding for training and professional development. The EHS Technology Committee will be developing ideas and opportunities for training.

The EHSEF will be seeking new board members for the 2019/2020 school year! If interested, please contact EHSF Board President Dan O’Neil at [email protected] or 303-332-8170.

Without the efforts of this group, EHS would simply not be as successful as we are. Please consider financially supporting the Evergreen High School Education Foundation by donating HERE.

PTSA

PTSA sends a special THANK YOU to all of the families who donated items to our Teacher Appreciation last week!  Our teachers had an amazing week, and we so very thankful to be blessed with such an amazing community!

Girls Tennis wins CHSAA Sportsmanship Award!

I am proud to announce that our Girls tennis team has been awarded by CHSAA the Matarrazo 4A Sportsmanship Award!  This is an enormous honor and speaks volumes of the leadership that is modeled by Coach Nielsen and Greenman.  In a day in age, where sometimes poor sportsmanship is highlighted, I wanted to take a moment to thank the coaches, players, and parents for exemplifying what it looks like to take the court and show respect, kindness, and humbleness.  We are so proud of you all!  Congratulations!

Weekly Sport Highlights

Girls Soccer has been impressive to watch this season.  Yes, it’s a younger team, with several starting freshmen and sophomores, but they play soccer with the maturity of upperclassmen.  These girls are a blast to watch!  Our #3 ranked Cougars took on #7 ranked Sand Creek during the semi-finals on Saturday at Legacy stadium.  If they won on Saturday, they will be playing the winner of Cheyenne Mountain and Silver Creek for a state title!  This state title game will be held on Wednesday, 5/22 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, 5:00 p.m.

Baseball is on a four game winning streak, beating Smoky Hill, Standley Lake, and Littleton in two seperate games!  This is the right time for Cougar baseball to be getting hot, as they traveled up to Longmont for their first playoff game and to determine regional champion.  More details to come on outcome in next week’s messenger.

Girls Golf, Track and Swim
