October Count - October 3rd

Mark October 3 on your calendar – it’s October Count! The most important action you can take to support school funding is to make sure your student attends school that day. Much of public education funding from the State of Colorado is based on student count, and the official student count day this year is October 3.

The “count window” the state observes is September 26 - October 10, and the key student count day is Wednesday, October 3. Please help us ensure all our students are accurately counted by having your student in class that day! If your child must be absent on October 3 due to serious illness, call our attendance line, 303.982.5041 to report the absence. Attendance during the “count window” will help counteract an absence on October 3, but it’s best to come to school that day.

Thank you for your support of Evergreen High School!

Start Planning for TEST FEST on Wednesday, October 10

For many years, EHS has used the October National PSAT/NMSQT testing date to administer multiple tests.  EHS calls this day TEST FEST.  Students will be taking the 9th, 10th, and 11th grade PSAT tests on Wednesday, Oct. 10.  All of these tests are used to identify college readiness, and we use the results in our academic counseling process to help determine proper academic placement in classes.  The National Merit Scholarship is awarded to a small amount of students every year to help them fund their college experience.  In fact, the PSAT is sometimes referred to as the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT).  Three benefits of taking the PSAT are—

  1. Since the junior year is the only year that students can qualify for the National Merit Scholarship, they might want to give it a practice shot during the sophomore year.
  2. It helps students connect with colleges.
  3. It better prepares students to take the SAT.

Test registration closed at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018.  Students are considered registered if they paid the OPTIONAL fee online through Jeffco Connect.

Please take note that only students testing attend school on October 10.  Parents do not need to call the attendance line.  Buses will run on a normal schedule.

ON TEST DAY:

  • Students need to arrive by 7:25 a.m. with a calculator and #2 pencils.
  • Freshmen students will be done at approximately 10:45 a.m.Sophomores and juniors will finish at approximately 11:30 a.m.(Students with accommodations will finish at various times.)

As a reminder, all students will take a free PSAT or SAT in the spring as part of our state mandated testing.

The Employability Skills class started the Youth Farm Stand (previously the Farmers Market) in August.  They are set up near the front entrance of Evergreen High School every Friday afternoon by 2:00 pm and go until 5:00 pm. They will have a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to offer each week through October. Organic pears and Gala apples will be available for a limited time. They also have a large variety of fruits and vegetables each week.  The students are working hard on life skills and would love for you to stop by, say hi, and buy some healthy treats!

Delicious Partnership

We are excited to announce a great partnership with our local Illegal Burger at 29017 Hotel Way, Evergreen, CO. 80439.  Mike, the general manager of Illegal Burger, has worked to provide an amazing opportunity to raise money for EHS.  From October 8th-October 14th, Illegal Burger will be giving the school 15% of their gross profits.  Students and families are welcome and just need to bring in an EHS ID card to prove you attend the school.  Also, from here on out, students will receive 10% off their order as long as they show their school ID.  Please support EHS and since you need to eat anyway, why not go to one of the best burger joints in the area?!  Thanks EHS students and families for your support!
